TRAINER Cate Heffernan MIACP - Counsellor, Trainer, Supervisor
I have been working as a counsellor since 1999. Very early in my career I felt drawn to working and specialising in couples therapy. I moved from the UK to Mayo in 2003 and for several years worked as a licensed counsellor for Marriage, Relationship Counselling Services.  I am currently working in private practice seeing couples, individuals and supervisees.  I first ran a Couples Therapy Training Course in Dublin in 2010.

I am a real believer in the power of couples therapy and I approach each couple with a vision:

  • To get to the heart of where their marriage or relationship is faltering
  • To identify how each partner is contributing to where they are stuck
  • To help each partner set meaningful goals that they are excited about working on
  • To guide and support each partner as they learn new skills which will mature and transform their own character and their relationship
  • To help each partner develop loving and enriching ways of connecting with each other

Working with couples can be complex and demanding but it can also be enormously exciting and rewarding. When couples come for counselling they are often highly distressed and feel overwhelmed by many difficult issues they have been unable to resolve. Understanding the developmental stage of each partner and their relationship is essential for effective couples therapy. This is where the Developmental Model shines.

This course is for you if you want to:
Create increased cooperation between partners - even before your first session
Get off to a powerful start
Know how to use the right intervention - and at what time
     Understand the importance of differentiation
Learn about attachment and the underlying causes of distress in the relationship

How the fight, flight, freeze brain response impacts the couple relationship - how to calm this
     Integrate theory with practical applications
     Map out effective treatment plans

 Are you a
therapist currently working with or interested in working with couples?
Have you taken part in training workshops in the past and enthusiastically tried out new interventions only to      find it runs aground and there’s nowhere to turn for guidance?

If so then this is the course for you!  To apply please copy and fill in the application form below and send it by email to cateheffernan@gmail.com.  Or go to the contact us section of this website.
